Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! Here r some helpful tips! I put some time and a lot of thought into this tank purchase. Did I want to start from scratch or buy a kit? I chose this tank for its simplicity and aesthetics. Also the box states it was betta friendly as well as listing several other species. (I obviously have a betta) setup was fun and easy. But there are a couple of things that I should tell you about regarding the pump. Most critical is the flow rate on the pump. Even though I had it on its lowest setting my betta was getting tossed around like it was in a tornado. this is not good! My fish requires very very low flow rate. To correct this I simply pull the pump assembly back out, removed the hose and used an exacto knife to cut about 6 perforation holes in it.don't make the holes too big! You can always go back and add a couple of more holes to slow it down if you have to. The only other drawback is the pump assembly installation itself. I have seen others say it is difficult to assemble and or remove. I assembled everything that goes on the filter side and installed it AFTER the water was in. It slid right in the tube is sort of rigid so you can use it to push the pump down. I suggest stopping short of the bottom! The suction cups can be a bear to get off if you need to adjust the flow rate later! That's it I love it and so do my fish friends! I hope this comment helps you and your decision and I hope this comment also clears up some confusion with the pumps

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For anyone that is considering of a tank this the fluval tank is the lowest maintenance tank that you will ever own. I have had many tanks and this is by far the best.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet and attractive A small unit at only 5 gallons but it filled the bill for the one, very happy, carnival fish. "LuckyOne" is swimming happily in his new home. The kids love it, the price at PetSmart online was very good and included free shipping. It is glass, small, attractive, Very quiet, actually silent, and the lighting is great. I am wondering why the top doesn't cover the entire aquarium but it shouldn't matter either. It would be nice with just plants. The filter system works well and does require minor monthly maintenance. Good value, but small.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from clean, easy to use, light bar sags, evaporates i bought this tank for sale so it wasn't that expensive, the good points are that, it is very clean and stays that way, easy to use and setup, good for beginners, long, fish will love it! the cons which are small would be that, the light bar sags but that is because of bad plastic screw and weight of light but easy fix with metal screw or wedge, it evaporates quickly but its not surprising since its a open top with thin lid. thing i would look out for wold be tiny pecs that look like chips or scratches on glass butt you can scrape them off must be residue from factory, and if for betta the current is strong so put a j-cloth piece on filter flow piece ( click off ball socket and insert ends of piece of j-cloth then pop back on). over all i love this tank all the cons can be fixed with ease and it is lovely if looking for nice desktop tank with allot of space for fish buy this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from meets every need regardless of the naysayers. I originally purchased this tank for my betta fish after watching several people rave about it on YouTube. I'm honestly not quite sure why this tank is getting one star reviews. Either the people reviewing aren’t quite sure what aquariums are like, or they overloading the bioload on the filter. Anyway, the flow rate in my tank is good, good enough to move the water around so you don’t get a slimy film on top. I added an air stone since I did a modification to the filter tube so it’s less flowy (mistake). I do have extremely clear water and have never had a problem with algae growth after the full cycle. I have live plants and they’re also thriving even though everyone says the light is garbage. I’ve had this tank for 6 months and I couldn’t be happier with it. I own 3 other aquariums and fluval is by far the best in quality that I’ve come across. Just do your research and pick the right tank for you instead of complaining about the wrong one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Tank but the Flow Rate is High I really like the look of this tank. Mine is the black one and there is nothing that I would change aesthetically about the tank. I really thought I would dislike the plastic lid, but once I had it all set up, it grew on me quick. The light is also great, and works well with a timer. I use the nighttime lights sometimes, and they look awesome. My plants are all low to medium light plants(anubias nana, green crypts, amazon sword, java moss, java fern and a sickly Water Wisteria) and are all doing great in the two weeks it has been set up (other than the Water Wisteria which already was doing poorly). The filtration media seems almost overboard, which I like, and the filter compartment is large enough to house my heater as well (a Tetra HT10), keeping it out of site. It seems to stay heated just fine with it in there. The only issue with the filter is that the adjustment on the pump seems to do nothing, and because it comes out of such a small nozzle, the flow is too strong for a betta. I ended up cutting small holes out of the rubber hose that hooks to the filter to slow it down some, but I wish there was some way to diffuse the water flow, instead of just slowing it. The other thing that I think is a bit of an issue is just the price. I got this as a gift, and they got it for less than 50 with some great sales. If you are looking to save some money, check out the Top Fin 5 Gallon Glass Aquarium (Petsmart Item: 36-27504). The Spec has that one beat in filtration(except the flow rate), and lighting, since the Spec can be used with a timer, but for the price, it's worth a look. I have both and like both, but this one is my favorite.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cool tank for a betta or endler's Tank is great for one betta fish or 2 or 3 small fish like endler's or guppies. Can't really fit anything else in this due to it's small size but is still nice if you don't have room for a big tank. Would also make a great shrimp tank. Everything that came with my tank seems to be running smoothly with no issues. After I did a new tank cycle I added 2 endler fish and 2 red cherry shrimp and they seem to be very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best choice for Fluval 5 gallon Aquariums I chose this tank for keeping newborn baby fish for up to 8 weeks. Firstly I prefer this tank because it is glass and will not scratch like plastic/acrylic tanks. Secondly the lighting is LED and has a day/night switch. Thirdly the filter system is the best because it filters in 3 stages - mechanically, and biologically (charcoal +) - a better filtration than the Fluval Chi. The design being wider allows better viewing and more schooling room for small fish. The filter is quiet and you don't have to stick with fluval media to replace the pellets & charcoal. You can use this tank for fresh water & salt water fish. It's also ideal for breeding brine shrimp. For baby fish or shrimp you will need to place a small piece of non-metal screen over the filter slots.
