Thinking about adding a goldfish to your family? You're not alone! Every year millions of people enter the wonderful world of Pet Parenting by starting with one of many species of goldfish. Goldfish are hardy, fascinating fish that are fairly easy to care for, which makes them one of the first choices for kids and classroom pets.

Unlike tropical fish, goldfish will live in a wide range of water temperatures. Most goldfish are peaceful and schooling fish that mix well with other goldfish. They come in a variety of striking colors with fascinating features like bubble eyes. They are best suited for a larger aquarium with lots of filtration (e.g., outside power filter). The minimum aquarium size for two adult goldfish should be 29 gallons.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful koi type goldfish This is probably quickly becoming one of my most favorite fish, I was never really a big fan of goldfish due to how they look (comet goldfish were really the only other goldfish I enjoyed at all). Then I saw this goldfish and had to have it, it was something I quickly fell in love with as I love koi fish and this one reminded me of koi so much. I have it in a tank with two other comet goldfish and they all live happily together, they don't really bully eachother or anything, they tend to stick together though. I am hoping that within the next year that I will be able to transfer them to a bigger tank as they are quickly getting to large for the current tank I have them in. I always say that goldfish are easy starter fish for kids as they live a long time (so the kid won't have to watch a fish die too often) and they are pretty hardy, the same can be said for the shubunkin goldfish and the colors it has make it just that much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely Fish Magnificent to see with it's flowing fins and bold color pattern. Calm but curious and social; this lil guy is an excellent alternative to Koi if housing is an issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for ponds I absolutely love shubunkins! I have 3 of these guys in my 300 gallon pond and they do great in there. I would never recommend this fish if you are not willing to give them 100+ gallons. They're great pond fish, cheaper and much smaller than koi and have great patterns that you won't find on comet or common goldfish

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very, very nice fish. I bought this one I have now to get along with my Comet goldfish I rescued from a tiger barb tank. I have no idea what they were thinking. Since goldfish don't like to be alone, I decided he needed a roomy to keep him company. The two get along great. My Shubunkin seems to be more of the bully of the two, but they're a match made in heaven. I have 3 fantail types in another tank, and those two will never meet them. I wouldn't put the straight fins in with fantails. I had Shubunkin goldfish in the past and they all did well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Great Hearty Long-lived Colorful Fish Many people think that goldfish are a 'BEGINNERS' fish but the shubunkin like all single tailed goldfish are a great fish for beginners to expert fish keepers.I bought my first shubunkin two months ago when he was just a 1/2 inch fish now he is a beautiful orange, black, and white 3-1/2 inch energetic fish who loves to play ping pong on the surface of the water in his 30 gallon tank. His diet consists of Wardly Goldfish Flakes. His tank mates are 6-7 feeder goldfish and a ghost shrimp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful but big Shubunkin - like any other single tailed goldfish - should be kept in a fish tank of 55 gallons MINIMUM. These fish grow up to 12 inches in length and love to dart around. I keep one in my 55 gallon tank and within a year and a half she grew from 2.5 to 9 inches, so because of her I am looking into upgrading to at least 125 gallons. They also can live a decade, so buying a fish like this is a commitment.
