The pride flag is a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community and represents diversity, inclusivity, and pride. The current pride flag consists of six colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. Each colour on the flag has a specific meaning:
• Red represents life
• Orange represents healing
• Yellow represents sunlight
• Green represents nature
• Blue represents harmony
• Violet represents spirit
The pride flag is a symbol of the LGBTQ+ community's fight for equal rights and acceptance, and it is often used in pride parades, rallies, and events as a show of solidarity and support.

The pride flag has a rich history and has undergone several changes and iterations over the years. In 1978, artist and activist Gilbert Baker created the first pride flag. The flag consisted of eight stripes, each representing a different aspect of the LGBTQ+ community. These colours were hot pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, indigo, and violet. However, the hot pink and turquoise stripes were removed due to the unavailability of the pink fabric and turquoise dye. The flag was then simplified to the six-stripe version that is widely recognized today. Over the years, several variations of the flag have emerged to represent specific communities within the LGBTQ+ community.
For example, in 2017, Philadelphia introduced the "More Color, More Pride" campaign, which added black and brown stripes to the flag to represent people of colour within the LGBTQ+ community. The transgender pride flag, designed by Monica Helms in 1999, features blue, pink, and white stripes to represent the transgender community.

Due to the unavailability of hot pink fabric and turquoise dye, along with the cost of producing eight stripes, the two colours were removed from the original 1978 pride flag design and replaced by the current six-stripe version, which has become the most widely recognized symbol of LGBTQ+ pride.
