What Should I Feed My Kitten?
Nutrients your furry calorie-burner needs to become a big cat
Overview
Kitten nutrition
Bouncing, pouncing, chasing bugs, climbing the curtains — kittens are little activity machines. It’s no wonder they needs lots of protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals. Choose a high-quality food made especially for kittens. It will be easier for your kitty to digest, which means they’ll get more of the nutrients they need.
Great sources of protein include:
- Fish (salmon, trout, sardines, catfish, whitefish)
- Poultry
- Eggs
Meat, chicken and fish are also good sources of taurine, an important nutrient for your kitten’s heart health, vision, and digestion that might not always be listed on a food label.
Energy to burn
Your kitten needs almost twice the energy per-pound as an adult cat. Keep their engine purring by feeding them three times a day until they’re six months old, then twice a day until they’re a year old.
Kittens and cats should have access to plenty of clean, fresh water at all times.
