I used the 10 gallon version together with another filter in a 55 gallon turtle tank for over a year. I moved and I'm using it again. (when other similar internal filters died, this one did not.) Just bought a 20 gallon version because of the larger filter capacity. Not sure how it works for a fish tank but for turtle tank, these are a great low-budget filter. my only complaint is that the filter on the 10 is fairly small- so more frequent changes are required, but the ease of use compared to other filters almost negates that issue.

Bought this filter for an emergency hospital tank for a shrimp.
I liked how there was a flow adjustment knob, but the lowest setting was still too powerful. The outtake hose pops off easily and is not easy to adjust while in the tank.
Not able to put any other media inside.
The filter does not work with tanks with sand because the intake is on the bottom.

Bought this filter as a budget starter. It was so cheap compared to others, I thought it would only work so-so. Well, i was wrong. it keeps a 10 gallon turtle tank sparking clean. I started with the same filter in a 5.5 gallon starter tank, of course it worked like a charm, and I was pleasantly surprised to find it works just as well in the 10 gallon tank.
I rinse out the sponge filter about twice a week and replace the sponge with replacement Topfin filters which are dirt cheap about every two weeks.
The spray bar is whisper quiet and it oxygenates the water quite well.
I see no need to buy an expensive filter, at least not for a 10 gallon turtle tank.

I liked these filters so much that I got 2 of them. The first one was a better option for a specific kind of fish tank I have, then, I was so impressed that I bought me another one. The first one was a 20, and the second one was a 40. I had 2 hang on backs going in my bigger tank, and was able to combine it all into one nice little filter. The other one is a special indoor Goldfish pond. It help to reduce the noise and evaporation in my tanks a lot.
