After my Danner air pump died after 1 1/2 yrs, I needed a pump quick. i bought the Q1 thinking it would be a better buy. Got it home and only one side would pump air. I needed both sides to work and Petsmart was closed. Yes, I opened it up to see if I could fix it. Luckly it was the one pump arm that was jammed. Looking at how it was designed, this would be a common problem if the unit/box was dropped during shipment or at Petsmart. After reading the other review, I would suggest Hagen find a different manufacture in China.

One problem here.. and it could be easily fixed if Fluval cared. The screw in holding the actual assembly down in the center (you have to open it up) will come loose and cause a rattling sound. If this happens to you, your pump will begin to make an annoying rattling sound that increases if the pump is turned upside down. Unplug it and with extreme caution - tighten the screw back down. Mine was completely backed out. Perhaps a little adhesive applied to the top of the screw and screw housing would prevent this from happening :/
