I have returned 2 of them and will be returning the third one next week. If the cat is willing to just sit and swipe his paw at the arm, it might hold up.

I bought this in-store on sale. My cat enjoyed it to some degree but the battery quickly died. I've replaced the batteries several times now but it's just not worth burning through batteries vs. the enticement my cat has for this toy when moving. There are cheaper ways to keep a bored cat occupied.

No idea what the one star reviewers are talking about. I bought the feather version because we have another feather toy that our 3 month old kitten loves. It is not loud at all. We have it sitting in the middle of our living room floor so we can watch her play and watch tv at the same time. No problems at all with noise!
As for the purpose of the product and durability. Our kitten is loving it. She alters between chasing it and waiting for it to come to her then attacking. Either way, the wand is standing up to the damage. She has caught it several times but as soon as it gets loose it's off again and so is she! I LIKE the fact that it doesn't try to rip itself away from her when she catches it, that could hurt her. When she catches the feathers it simply makes a "click click" noise and tries to move until she lets it go.
I also love that when she messes up the cover, the movement of the wand usually smooths it back out without intervention from me!

Whoever came up with toy was a genius! My cat loves this toy. She'll play with it for over an hour nonstop, which is the longest I've ever seen a cat play with anything. It keeps her engaged and interested, which is just what I was hoping for. Get rechargeable batteries because you'll go through a lot of them!
