The part that connects to the tree is screwed together by a very small screw. It did the trick holding our very energetic, cunning husky in place for a while but it's not a long term solution. Since it it most like used outside it is important to note all the metal pieces rust QUICKLY and after that the clip doesn't function properly. We have had it for about two months and it needs replacing already. It would probably be great for a dog that was confined indoors or under a 24-7 shelter. PetSmart is awesome though and will replace, with a valid receipt, anything that your dog tears up quickly.

I bought this for taking my dog to a friend's house for her doggy play dates as they don't have a fence. The second my dog got to the end of the leash it broke at the hardware connecting the tree loop together. I know it was well connected (I really didn't want my dog running off!). I don't trust it to get another now that I see the online reviews (I bought mine in the store). Bummer. I love the idea of this. If they made it tough, I'd quickly buy another. Until then, I'll have to figure out something else. If you need a leash, this isn't trustworthy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by DanielleC Great idea - poor quality
Our beagle is only a year and a half and he's broken 2 of these tie-outs already. We made sure that the beagle's weight it not over the restriction but yet the lead still snaps.
It was very upsetting because we lost our dog for over 9 hours due to this. It's great for yards without fences, but the material needs to be stronger.

I purchased April 29, 2012...3 days later had to exchange. 90 days later the same problem occured. I purchased an Xlarge although my dog is not XLarge, and it still breaks...not made very well.
