Rated 5 out of 5 by Samurai A wonderful fish
I have three of them and will be buying two more next month. They are easy to take care of and very interesting to watch. They eat a variety of store bought fish foods as well as small insects you catch yourself.
Some of the reviews state that they are easily spooked. If that's the case something is not right with your set-up. In my aquarium I have one plastic plant in the front right corner and a 12" aerator stick (a little bit larger than necessary for the aquarium) beneath the gravel along the front. I also have a slightly more powerful filter than recommended for the aquarium size. The plant provides cover for them to hide around and the bubbles from the aerator stick (which rise up along the front glass and then move across the surface) provide cover for them to hide behind/under (the bubbles aren't so much that you can't see the fish unless you are facing one edge on). The key to keeping them from being spooked so easily is to simply provide them with sufficient cover (in their minds). They are still easily observable and go about their business like everything is fine.
The slightly more powerful filter and the aerator stick produce a little bit of water current in the aquarium which is good for them as they are native to rivers in the Amazon Basin and rivers flow. They will sometimes hold position facing into the current to gulp down any particles of food which come floating along.
They really are a wonderful fish to own and enjoy. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Riley97 Most beautiful plain fish
The Silver Dollars seem plain looking, but they are very beautiful when they "Glimmer". They, as you can see, are built for speed! They seem to always be in a corner together, and they seem to love my air-stone in the tank. They are always moving!
